St. Wilfrid’s and Churches Together

St. Wilfrid’s enjoys good relations with the Baptist, Methodist and Roman Catholic churches in the village. There is ministry and lay representation on a ‘Calverton Churches Together’ group that organises regular joint services. These are held both in member churches and at Colonel Frank Seely School (utilising the facilities of the leisure centre). The joint Calverton Churches Together choir puts on a production every year and regularly sings at the services. World Church

St. Wilfrid’s has developed links with overseas ministry through the contacts of previous incumbents. The church has contributed to their support with gifts and prayers, and contact through visits has enriched the church with a wider perspective. African International Christian Ministry

Founded in 1983 by the Venerable Canon Enoch Kayeeye to foster community development, literacy and evangelism in Uganda, this mission works amongst the poor remote people of Kabale (south west Uganda). A very special work exists with the Batwa, pygmies regarded as ‘the poorest of the poor’ forced out of their traditional forest lands by encroaching development. AICM is an indigenous Ugandan mission and a fully registered non-governmental organisation in Uganda. It has for example built clinics, which are now handed over to the government. Approximately 15% of the local trade and craft skills in Kabale and the neighbouring towns are the result of AICM vocational training. Enoch last visited St. Wilfrid’s in 2002.
